12/08/09 - LIFE Course hits 50!
Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service and ‘Safer Hart’ are preparing for the next LIFE (Local Intervention & Fire Education) course, set to run at Rushmoor Fire Station from 28th September – 2nd October. This will be the 50th course run at Rushmoor since the projects inception, with a large number of youngsters from Hart having previously taken part.
LIFE is a 5 day course held at Rushmoor Fire Station, with young people who have been referred either because they are involved in or on the cusp of firesetting, crime or anti social behaviour.
The course is designed to challenge the attitude and behaviour of the young people by getting them to adopt new values, address the consequences of their behaviour, work co-operatively with others and gain self esteem and confidence.
Young people are provided with their own uniform for the week and are provided with two meals a day to ensure they have the strength to carry out the physical activity.
The week closes with a pass out parade, with friends and parents invited to come along and watch. The students demonstrate the skills they have learnt, and are then presented with a portfolio which contains certificates and photographs of their achievements from the course.
Participants are referred through the Community Safety Team and partner agencies.
