CREW
Crime Reduction and Environment Week (CREW) is a multi-agency, community initiative aimed at tackling residents concerns, environmental issues and criminal activity in a small area. The Police, with the support of the Community Safety Team, initiated CREW, which is now a nationally recognised event.
The object of CREW is to improve the communities in which we work and live.
During CREW we would usually:
- Hold assemblies and surgeries giving advice and information on Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB), Community Safety, Housing, Fire Safety, Legal and others.
- Tackle crime and ASB through targeted patrols by Police, Community Wardens and Accredited Community Safety Officers (ASCO).
- Tackle environmental issues, such as fly-tipping and abandoned cars.
- Build communities, encouraging a greater sense of pride.
We try to encourage all HDC departments to get involved with CREW, which continues to become more and more successful.
Previous Successes Include:
- Removal of fly-tipping and litter
- Graffiti removal
- Local beauty spot clearance
- Truancy sweeps
- Abandoned car removal
- Free home fire safety visits
- Flood ditch clearance
- High visibility patrols
- Issuing fixed penalty notices
- Building and repairing bridges and paths
- Test purchasing
- Licensing checks
The next CREW will be held during Halloween and Fireworks festivities in late October 2010.
